Chippewa Chapter Report - October 15, 2007 WI SAF Executive Meeting - Telemark Lodge, Cable, WI The Chippewa Chapter held a field tour and meeting on September 20th, 2007. The topic was “Pioneer Fire: Suppressing Flames and Salvaging Timber.” Members met at Telemark Lodge and then went to the site of the Pioneer Fire that burned about 1200 acres on April 29, 2007. Firefighters from the Great Divide Ranger District of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest and the Wisconsin DNR explained the fire control effort, and personnel from the Great Divide timber shop discussed the issues involved with salvaging National Forest timber. Nine chapter members plus eight others from the Great Divide Ranger District attended the event. The chapter business meeting was held at Telemark Lodge following the field tour. The program committee has been meeting regularly to plan and host the fall statewide meeting. There are about 120 people registered at this time. It should be a very informative and fun training conference. Thanks are due to Jay Gallagher, Amy Morales, Dick Strauss, Nancy Larson, Sara Traaholt, and all others who helped. The Chapter is planning to hold four chapter meetings this year, including some weekend meetings and perhaps a breakfast meeting, to try to increase attendance and get more involvement by chapter membership.
