If you are an SAF member and are interested in applying for a Forester’s Fund Grant from the national office please follow this link.

Report Date

October 15, 2007

The Foresters’ Fund is available to assist local SAF units in achieving the goals of the Society.  Goals of the fund are as follows:

  • Promote education to enhance public understanding of the role of professional foresters in forest resource management
  • Strengthen state societies, divisions, and chapters in achieving the mission of the society
  • Conduct forest policy activities

Projects must meet at least one of the above-listed goals and should include, but not be limited to:

  • Public outreach and education
  • Local unit support
  • Legislative events

Deadlines for applications have not changed:  Feb. 15, June 15, and Sept. 15 for regular grants of $1500 or less.  The special grant deadline is June 15 for projects totaling $1501 - $5000.  In addition, the State Society may have opportunities for funding as well.

We did not receive any applications for the recently passed Sept. 15 deadline.  For June we were successful in getting funding for the Aldo Leopold Legacy Center (Land ethic campaign) - $3500.00.  We also submitted a request for funding for the Midwest Environmental Education Conference that was not successful on the National level.  Wisconsin SAF agreed to contribute $500.00 towards that venture at the March Executive Committee meeting.

  • Action Item:   Encourage and solicit projects by the next deadline (Feb. 15, 2008).  Foresters’ Fund information is available through the SAF website or by contacting your local or State Foresters’ Fund chair.
