County Road Y, Suite 700 Oshkosh, WI 54901-9731 Dear Gerry, During our executive committee meeting on November 10 we discussed the Woodland Advocate program and how the Wisconsin Society of American Foresters (WISAF) can help promote the program. It is our understanding that the Woodland Advocate Program intends to use individuals in local communities as advocates to encourage landowners to seek professional assistance and/or education opportunities for help in managing their lands, and these advocates will not be playing “forester” by giving advice outside the scope of their qualifications. The Woodland Advocate Program has great potential to serve as one part of the solution that will lead landowners to responsible forest practices, especially those who are reluctant to become involved with an established landowner organization or enroll in Managed Forest Law. WISAF recognizes the program as a new and innovative way to promote sound forest management. We applaud your efforts and offer you our cooperation and support for the Woodland Advocate Program. When you have an advocate training session I would like to offer a WISAF chapter member to introduce WISAF to the group, explain our mission and let them know that the professional foresters in Wisconsin appreciate their efforts to promote forest management. Sincerely, Jim Kerkman Chair, Wisconsin Society of American Foresters For more information about Woodland Advocates and other recommendations from the Wisconsin Healthy Forests Pilot, see the "Next 2 Million Acres" report.
